[Little of A, tiny bit of B. She's not quite the battle maniac, but she takes some small amount of pride in her skill. After everything that Pulse threw at her, a few scrapes from flying bark are nothing.
Yeah, they're all weirdos down here. She watches him as he works, and when the cloth presses to her arm the only sign of a flinch is the minute tensing in her face that quickly fades. At least none of these need stitches. She hates those.]
Lightning. [A soft tilt of her head.] What's yours?
Leorio Paladinight. [Lifting the cloth, he squints down after his preliminary cleaning. Just to make sure there's no discoloration, no signs of infection, no signs of weird bugs or anything else... It's a caution he's had drilled into his head recently and that he doesn't plan on forgetting any time soon.] I'd introduce myself as a Hunter, although that doesn't really mean jack and squat around here, but mainly I'm a med student.
...Well. And maybe part of a board of people? [Satisfied with his investigation, he continues his clean up.] It's a mess, honestly. I don't even know how I got mixed up in all of it.
[Heh, seems she's not the only one with a complicated past. From the sounds of it, soldier to l'Cie to would be world-saver is easy in comparison. She snorts quietly and lets him continue to work.]
Probably the same way you got mixed up in all of this. [A gesture with her other hand to encompass the fire and town.] You said yes to something and everything went to hell afterwards.
[The way Leorio's slump is no too unlike the way a dog's ears flick backwards when it's been caught trying to sneak onto a couch- in other words, the air of someone who knows he's been pinned right in the act.]
At least then I knew I was getting paid for what I was gonna do. [He nods his chin up towards her.] Story of your life too?
[She signed up for the Corps, she made that call knowing what she was getting into. Going after Serah, after the fal'Cie? It had to be done and damn the consequences. But this mess? Fighting's the same anywhere, but this is more than just fighting, isn't it? They wouldn't be here if the Grimm were really the only issue.]
Though something tells me this job doesn't offer paid time off.
I wonder if we can at least take something back with us as payment. [He snorts a little bit under his breath as he reaches over to clean off her cheek.] A souvenir, at the very least! It would probably start up a whole bunch of excitement where I'm from, at least.
[It's little more than a scratch, though she's been around healers long enough to know not to speak as he cleans the wound. It's only when he's pulled back that she shakes her head.]
The way these people are acting? We might be lucky to get away with our lives as payment.
[Not necessarily because the ones that brought them here are the threat, specifically, but because of what else is out there. Looking into the fire, she closes her eyes.]
[At least she has a good amount of patience, even if there's not too much to patch up. Leorio might not be an official doctor yet, but he's still dealt with patching up plenty of people long before he ever took his Hunter Exam. Fussy patients are the worse.]
I mean, come on, what kind of organization is this?
One desperate enough to take whoever they can get their hands on.
[She's seen their motley crew. Combatants, non-combatants, kids who have no training let alone a place in this field...it's a mess and there's so much at stake. Doesn't help that their cloaked "friend" seems to have up and vanished. Her fingers tap at her knee, eyes narrowing.]
We don't have the whole story. Don't trust them until we do.
[Well, she's not wrong on that. 'Desperation' seems to be the name of the game here. Leorio knows what that looks like... especially in stark contrast to the Hunters Association, with him being on the ground floor helping to get the trip to the Dark Continent all prepared. No one had known what they would face, but they at least had the manpower and resources for something mostly prepared.]
[Which doesn't mean it's going to go smoothly, but at least he knows it's not a disaster from the outset]
[Satisfied with what little he can do for her, Leorio leans back with his face crumpling into a look of distaste.]
Is there any major power in any world that actually has its shit together? I'm really starting to wonder here.
[Well there was the fal'Cie. For a while there, they had everything under control.
Control. Right. Lightning crosses her arms over her chest with a soft snort. For given value of shit together, the fal'Cie probably count. Not for much longer, though.]
That depends on what they're trying to do. [Her eyes flick to him. That cloaked idiot said something about saving all of reality, but...really? Who knows.] If they're trying to get us all killed, they're off to a good start.
[And if they're not, they're off to a really bad start.]

Would that be enough of a souvenir for you?
